St. Andrew's (Hallville)

inkerman united church

Mission statement

We proclaim Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour. We strive to live out Christ’s love and Christ’s teachings by meeting the spiritual needs and providing comfort and support for our church family and the wider community.

History

The roots of St. Andrew’s are found in a barn on the farm of Murray Hyndman. This barn was the scene in 1834 of the first religious sacraments to be celebrated in the area. In 1844 the time had come for building a church and in 1880 the present stone church was completed. In 2003 the church was made completely handicap accessible through the monies left by the late Maurice Hyndman.

In 2008 the Sanctuary was decorated with money in memory of the late Greta Clark. St. Andrew’s continues to be a very active church with a choir, Sunday School, United Church Women (UCW), and many young families.

Confirmation (2025-2026)

In the United Church of Canada, confirmation is a process for young people to explore their faith life and commitments and affirm their baptism at an earlier age.

This year at St. Andrew’s (Hallville) Church, a group of 10 young people has chosen to explore their faith and consider confirmation. Rev. Christine Lowson leads the group in collaboration with members of the Hallville congregation.

The group meets once a month, during the church calendar year, to explore various aspects of faith. Interested youth may confirm their faith formally in the spring.

2025 activities

July: Participated in an Indigenous led conversation/storytelling at Rideau Hill Camp that included the role of spirituality in Indigenous cultures.)

August: Explored the role of music in spirituality with members of the Winchester United Choir led us through discussion and song and explored the role of music in spirituality.

September: Took a spiritual/therapy forest walk in Ferguson Forest (Kemptville), led by Andrea Prazmowski.

October: As part of World Wide Communion Day, the group made pretzels. The youth then served the pretzels as our Communion bread while participating in the service.

November: Brainstormed ideas about Christmas traditions, activities, songs and scripture, and then created an Advent(ure) Calendar that was delivered to our four churches and Winchester United.

December: The group and family members will meet at Dundas Manor to perform and participate in a sing-along with Manor residents.
